Roy Bellamy

Profile

A veteran of the CBS SportsLine chat rooms from 1998 until their demise in 2001, Roy Bellamy announced his retirement from fantasy football at the age of 20 following the end of the 2003 season, and did not have any plans to return in the immediate future. Like former St. Louis Rams head coach Dick Vermeil, Bellamy's final season ended with a "walk-off championship," despite finishing one game below .500 in the regular season.

Of course, Vermeil decided to unretire several years later, and so did Bellamy. While Bellamy decided to stop playing other fantasy sports as well at the time of his retirement, he eventually changed his mind, and joined a fantasy baseball league for the 2005 season. And then ... he came back in the hopes of winning a second UFFL title. Originally naming his team The Sticky Williams, he later changed it to Belly's Underdogs. Ironically, both Bellamy and Vermeil quit again from their respective leagues on the same day - Sunday, January 1, 2006. However, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Bellamy returned to the league for his third tour of duty August 8, 2007. His third tour of duty in the league was his longest, lasting until he officially announced his retirement (again) July 5, 2010.

One of the original 12 owners in the UFFL, Roy was the head coach of Daffy's D-Backs (originally named Porky's Punters, and later renamed the Miami Silver Mullets for the 2003 season). During the 2003 playoffs, he defeated The Midwest Riders, To Be Named, and the Bone Crushing Bills en route to the championship, giving South Florida yet another world title to be proud of.

Bellamy currently works as a producer for ESPN Radio's Dan Le Batard show, as well as for Miami Marlins and Miami Heat games on 790/104.3 The Ticket, a sports radio station in Miami, Florida, after joining the station as an intern and sales assistant. He is an avid Panthers, Dolphins and Heat fan who can be heard occasionally on the air.
