Weekly Previews
2006 UFFL Season
NOTE: The Weekly Previews feature was not created until the fifth week
of the season. Previews were not done in Weeks 7, 9 and 11.
Week Five, 2006
Here's
a brief glimpse at this week's head-to-head contests:
Football Gal (1-3) at
Pulverizers (0-4)
Two struggling teams battling injury problems, underachieving player
performances, and those annoying bye weeks look to get back on track in
this Week 5 matchup. It got so bad last week that Washington Redskins
kick returner Rock Cartwright made it into the Pulverizers' starting
lineup. That's right. Rock Cartwright. Oh, how the mighty have fallen
...
Deltaman (3-1) at Steph
Infections (4-0)
Without question, this is the UFFL game of the week - and the Steph
Infections' strong start is even more impressive considering that their
owner, Stephanie George, had her computer in the shop during the draft,
as well as during the first few weeks of the season! Meanwhile, will
Craig Hoffman's team be able to survive the absence of star running
back Shaun Alexander for a few more weeks?
More to Come (2-2) at Purple
People Eaters (3-1)
Jay Klinkhammer's fantasy football team has yet another new moniker ...
but will he be able to keep it for more than a few weeks? Unless the
entire Minnesota Vikings squad does something on the level of stupidity
of, say, Koren Robinson, between now and the end of the 2006 season, it
should be the last time it changes during the calendar year. A victory
by More to Come this week would give Becci Domecillo as many wins as
she had during the entire 2005 campaign.
CowboysNtx (1-3) at
CheeseWhiz (3-1)
Jim Douglas can take solace in the fact that even if the football team
he cheers for in real life is terrible, at least the CheeseWhiz are
(is?) competitive. Craig Lechner appears poised to have no fewer than
four starting Cowboys in this week's lineup.
The Tallywhackers (1-3) at
The Catch (4-0)
The San Francisco 49ers and The Catch both appear to be having solid
years, whereas the Miami Dolphins and The Tallywhackers both appear to
be struggling. Coincidence?
Cheeko's Chiefs (2-2) at
Bills SB in 2019! (0-4)
Let's hope the year "2019" in Jason Shannon's team nickname doesn't
refer to the next time his fantasy football team will win a game as
well! Chad Fuller, on the other hand, is hoping that winning will be a
... (Drew) Brees ... this weekend.
Week
Six, 2006
Here's a brief glimpse at this
week's head-to-head contests:
CheeseWhiz (4-1) at
Pulverizers (1-4)
Regardless of the outcome of this game, one thing's for certain: the
Pulverizers are far better than Temple University's sorry excuse for a
football team. CheeseWhiz, meanwhile, is searching for their third
consecutive victory.
Football Gal (1-4) at Steph
Infections (5-0)
The Steph Infections enter the game as one of only two remaining
undefeated teams in the league, while Football Gal has lost the last
four games since winning the season opener.
Deltaman (3-2) at Purple
People Eaters (4-1)
As usual, Jay Klinkhammer's Purple People Eaters lead the league in
transactions with 36 ... but what may come as a surprise to you is that
17 of those transactions came before the first regular season game was
played! Deltaman attempts to avoid its second straight loss.
The Tallywhackers (1-4) at
More to Come (2-3)
Both squads have lost two in a row, but something's got to give this
week (and it's pretty safe to assume it won't end in a tie, since no
games in UFFL history have ended in a dead heat).
CowboysNtx (1-4) at Bills SB
in 2019! (0-5)
The battle for the top draft choice in the 2007 Ultimate Fantasy
Football League draft may come down to one of these two teams, if
things don't turn around in a hurry.
Cheeko's Chiefs (3-2) at The
Catch (5-0)
By default, this is probably the UFFL game of the week, and one of only
two matchups where both squads have a winning record. Despite only
being one game above .500, Cheeko's Chiefs lead the entire league in
points scored. Sort of reminiscent of the Kansas City Chiefs, who score
a ton of points, only to see the opposition score many more.
Week Eight, 2006
Here's a brief glimpse at this
week's head-to-head contests:
The Catch (7-0) at
Pulverizers (2-5)
The Pulverizers are coming off what is arguably the most embarrassing
loss in franchise history, having been defeated by Bills SB in 2019!
(an abandoned team) by 15.76 points. WR Hines Ward's 180+ receiving
yards and three touchdown catches simply weren't enough to overcome the
auto-piloted Bills.
Bills SB in 2019! (2-5) at
Steph Infections (7-0)
The Steph Infections remain in a two-way tie atop the league standings
with an undefeated record, despite QB Donovan McNabb's three
interceptions in Week 7.
CheeseWhiz (4-3) at Purple
People Eaters (5-2)
This is the Ultimate Fantasy Football League game of the week by
default, considering that it's the only matchup where both teams have
winning records!
Football Gal (1-6) at More to
Come (3-4)
After winning the season opener, Football Gal has lost six consecutive
contests. Opponents have scored over 100 points in five of seven games;
in the two games where they were held under 100 points, they scored
98.97 and 99.85 points! By comparison, Football Gal has only topped the
century mark twice.
The Tallywhackers (2-5) at
Deltaman (3-4)
Both teams involved in this matchup followed up victories in Week 6
with losses in Week 7.
CowboysNtx (1-6) at Cheeko's
Chiefs (4-3)
Another loss for CowboysNtx could spell the end of this team's
postseason hopes for 2006.
Week
Ten, 2006
Here's a brief glimpse at this
week's head-to-head contests:
* GAME OF THE WEEK *
The Catch (8-1) at Purple
People Eaters (7-2)
This selection was a no-brainer, considering these are the two best
teams in the entire league; in fact, The Catch became the first
franchise to clinch a playoff spot - doing so in only the ninth week of
the season!
Cheeko's Chiefs (6-3) at
Steph Infections (7-2)
This is yet another quality matchup between two solid franchises;
however, the Steph Infections (losers of two consecutive games) and
Cheeko's Chiefs (winners of three in a row) appear to be heading in
opposite directions. The Chiefs, despite their record, have actually
scored more fantasy points than any other team in the UFFL.
CheeseWhiz (4-5) at Deltaman
(6-3)
Like the Chiefs/Infections game, this contest features two franchises
headed in opposite directions. Jim Douglas' CheeseWhiz team has dropped
their last four games; meanwhile, Craig Hoffman's Deltaman squad has
won their last two.
Bills SB in 2019! (3-6) at
More to Come (5-4)
Becci Domecillo's team has rebounded from a 2-4 start to the season,
and is looking for their fourth consecutive victory against Jason
Shannon's Abandoned All-Stars™.
Pulverizers (3-6) at
CowboysNtx (2-7)
Well, with so many decent fantasy football matchups this week, there
are bound to be some clunkers. At least the Pittsburgh Steelers aren't
alone as far as struggling defending championship football teams from
Pennsylvania go.
The Tallywhackers (2-7) at
Football Gal (1-8)
Mozelle Meyers' squad looks to avoid their ninth consecutive loss of
the season, a dubious achievement that no one would want to be
associated with.
Week
Twelve, 2006
Here's a brief glimpse at this
week's head-to-head contests:
* GAME OF THE WEEK *
The Catch (10-1) at Deltaman
(7-4)
This selection pits two franchises who have already qualified for the
postseason against each other. The Catch are looking for their fourth
consecutive victory, while Deltaman is looking to avoid their second
straight loss.
Cheeko's Chiefs (7-4) at More
to Come (6-5)
Both teams are recovering from losses in Week 11. Another victory by
More to Come will likely result in a playoff berth.
Steph Infections (7-4) at
Pulverizers (5-6)
After winning their first seven games of the season, the Steph
Infections haven't won a game since, and they have to play the
remainder of the season without franchise quarterback Donovan McNabb.
The Pulverizers have been victorious in three of their last four
contests, and are attempting to reach .500.
CowboysNtx (3-8) at Purple
People Eaters (8-3)
Jay Klinkhammer's squad has made 59 transactions this season ... and
obviously, his willingness to adjust has paid off, as they have the
league's second-best record.
The Tallywhackers (3-8) at
CheeseWhiz (5-6)
Jason Wedgwood's squad will likely miss the postseason for the fifth
consecutive season if they fail to emerge victorious this week.
Meanwhile, this game is also a "must-win" for Jim Douglas, as his team
battles for one of three remaining playoff spots.
Bills SB in 2019! (4-7) at
Football Gal (1-10)
Football Gal, eliminated from the postseason picture long ago, can
clinch the first spot in the 2007 UFFL draft with another loss.
Week
Thirteen, 2006
Here's a brief glimpse at this
week's head-to-head contests:
* GAME OF THE WEEK *
Cheeko's Chiefs (7-5) at
Deltaman (7-5)
This is Week 13's only contest between two franchises that have already
made the playoffs. However, both teams still have something worth
fighting for - playoff seeding.
Purple People Eaters (8-4) at
Pulverizers (5-7)
It's the possible postseason preview Jay Klinkhammer has dreaded (see
the link to the news page below): facing running back LaDainian
Tomlinson. Despite their losing record, the Pulverizers are still in
good shape to make the postseason, as a result of having the
fourth-highest fantasy points total in the league entering the week.
Bills SB in 2019! (4-8) at
CheeseWhiz (5-7)
For an abandoned team, Bills SB in 2019! has done a halfway decent job
of remaining competitive in most games this season.
CowboysNtx (4-8) at More to
Come (7-5)
In just her second year in the league, Becci Domecillo has gone from
being the league's worst team to running a team which will still be
active once the regular season concludes. Craig Lechner's squad still
has a shot at the postseason, albeit slim.
The Tallywhackers (4-8) at
Steph Infections (8-4)
Stephanie George's squad, with a victory in Week 13 (along with a loss
by the Purple People Eaters), can clinch the second seed in the UFFL
postseason picture. Despite being four games below .500, Jason
Wedgwood's team is technically still in playoff contention, but they
would need a lot of help from several teams in order to squeak through.
The Catch (11-1) at Football
Gal (2-10)
Could there be a more lopsided match in the final week of the regular
season? The Catch have clinched the first seed in the playoffs;
Football Gal, on the other hand, has clinched the first selection in
the 2007 player draft. Mozelle Meyers' squad snapped a 10-game losing
streak last week, while Andrew So's team has won four consecutive games.
Week Fourteen,
2006
Here's a brief glimpse at this
week's head-to-head contests:
The Catch (first seed, 11-2)
against The Tallywhackers (eighth seed, 5-8)
Jason Wedgwood has broken his personal string of four consecutive years
without making the postseason, the longest such streak in league
history. What is his reward for getting off the schneid? A first-round
matchup against the team with the best record in the league, not to
mention the squad which scored the most fantasy football points. In
their only meeting of the season, The Catch beat The Tallywhackers by a
narrow margin of 5.60 fantasy points. What's more impressive about
Wedgwood making the playoffs is that his team did not make one single
transaction all year.
Purple People Eaters (second
seed, 9-4) against Pulverizers (seventh seed, 5-8)
For the third time this year - and the second consecutive week - Jay
Klinkhammer's Purple People Eaters square off against Jared Byrd's
Pulverizers. Klinkhammer won both regular season matchups, in weeks two
and thirteen, and the Pulverizers will have to compete without the
services of injured wide receiver Hines Ward. Will LaDainian Tomlinson
be enough to keep this season series from being a three-game sweep?
More to Come (third seed,
8-5) against Cheeko's Chiefs (sixth seed, 7-6)
These two teams also met twice during the regular season (in weeks one
and thirteen), splitting the season series. However, they're heading in
opposite directions - More to Come won their last two regular season
games entering the playoffs, while Cheeko's Chiefs dropped their last
three contests.
Steph Infections (fourth
seed, 8-5) against Deltaman (fifth seed, 8-5)
In one previous matchup this season, the Steph Infections crushed
Deltaman, 129.10-110.44 (week five); however, that was before franchise
quarterback Donovan McNabb was lost for the year. Backup quarterback
Jeff Garcia is now being counted on to lead the team to victory.
CheeseWhiz (5-8), Bills SB in 2019!
(5-8), CowboysNtx (4-9) and Football Gal (3-10) did not make the
playoffs. Despite having the same records as two playoff teams,
CheeseWhiz and Bills SB in 2019! did not make the postseason because of
the fantasy football points tiebreaker.
Week Fifteen,
2006
Here's a brief glimpse at this
week's head-to-head contests:
* CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET *
The Catch (first seed, 12-2)
against Steph Infections (fourth seed, 9-5)
In their only other matchup this season, The Catch cruised to victory
over the Steph Infections, 110.53-74.32, in Week 9. However, this
particular game means so much more than their first meeting in early
November did.
Cheeko's Chiefs (sixth seed,
8-6) against Pulverizers (seventh seed, 6-8)
These two teams battled each other in Week 9, with Chad Fuller's squad
emerging victorious by the narrow margin of 3.62 fantasy football
points. But can the Pulverizers pull out a victory this time around, en
route to a second consecutive appearance in the championship game?
* CONSOLATION BRACKET *
More to Come (third seed,
8-6) against Purple People Eaters (second seed, 9-5)
In Week 5, the Purple People Eaters devoured Beeci Domecillo's team by
a margin of 14.87 points, but that was just the appetizer to this main
course of a postseason battle.
The Tallywhackers (eighth
seed, 5-9) against Deltaman (fifth seed, 8-6)
In another Week 5 game, Deltaman didn't stand a chance against the
Steph Infections, as the upstate New Yorkers steamrolled to a
114.33-81.90 victory over Craig Hoffman and company. Will history
repeat itself ten weeks later?
CheeseWhiz (5-8), Bills SB in 2019!
(5-8), CowboysNtx (4-9) and Football Gal (3-10) did not make the
playoffs. Despite having the same records as two playoff teams,
CheeseWhiz and Bills SB in 2019! did not make the postseason because of
the fantasy football points tiebreaker.
Week
Sixteen, 2006
Here's a brief glimpse at this
week's head-to-head contests:
* CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET *
Championship Game -
Pulverizers (seventh seed, 7-8) against Steph Infections (fourth seed,
10-5)
These two franchises met twice during the course of the regular season
(in Weeks 1 and 12), with the Steph Infections coming out on top in
both games. Will the third time be a charm for the Pulverizers, looking
to become the first team in league history to win back-to-back
championships?
Third Place Game - The Catch
(first seed, 12-3) against Cheeko's Chiefs (sixth seed, 8-7)
Normally, scoring 101.35 fantasy football points in any given week
gives a team a good chance of winning their head-to-head matchup.
Unfortunately for Cheeko's Chiefs, The Catch completely demolished
them, by scoring 167.75 points against them in Week 6 (which is
actually the record for most points scored by one team in any given
week this season). Chad Fuller can only hope that his opponent's squad
isn't clicking on all cylinders, as they did ten weeks ago.
* CONSOLATION BRACKET *
Fifth Place Game - Purple
People Eaters (second seed, 10-5) against The Tallywhackers (eighth
seed, 6-9)
Here's a strange matchup - one owner who has made a countless number of
transactions this season (and in his fantasy football career in
general) facing another owner who barely set his lineups and made no
transactions. While it didn't work in Week 4, can apathy beat intensity
in Week 16?
Seventh Place Game - More to
Come (third seed, 8-7) against Deltaman (fifth seed, 8-7)
Even though both teams playing in this game lost each of their first
two postseason games this season, it's important to note that they were
at the bottom of the league, record-wise, not too long ago. More to
Come won the only previous matchup between these franchises in 2006.
